While brushing and flossing are absolutely necessary to\nyour <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jodimeadvindmd.com\/dental-checkups-and-cleanings.html\">oral\nhealth<\/a>, there are plenty of other ways you can keep your teeth clean at\nhome and decrease your risk of getting cavities. Get Plenty of Fluoride <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The next time you buy toothpaste, check the label to make\nsure it contains fluoride. This mineral, which occurs naturally in most water\nsources, has been proven to strengthen teeth, providing extra protection in the\nfight against cavities. Brushing your teeth twice a day with a fluoridated\ntoothpaste should significantly decrease your risk of developing tooth decay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most tap water is also fortified with fluoride, while\nbottled water is typically not. Switching to drinking tap water will give your\nteeth an extra boost of cavity protection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Rinse with Mouthwash <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many people brush and floss every day, but neglect to add\nmouthwash to their oral hygiene routine. Rinsing with an antibacterial\nmouthwash can clean areas of your mouth that your brush and floss simply can\u2019t reach.\nStart rinsing once a day after you brush and floss. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Avoid Tobacco <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Smoking or even chewing tobacco can more than double your\nrisk of gum disease, not to mention increasing your risk of developing potentially\nlife-threatening oral cancer. In addition, it stains your teeth and worsens\nyour breath. Nothing good comes from smoking. If you need help quitting, ask\nyour dentist or doctor for resources. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Limit Sugary Snacks <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When you eat or drink something sugary, bacteria in your\nmouth feed on sugar particles and leave behind an acidic waste product that\ndestroys tooth enamel, which is what causes cavities. By keeping your\nconsumption of sugary foods and beverages to a minimum, bacteria won\u2019t have enough\nfuel to create this destructive waste product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Eat Fruits and Vegetables <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When you remove highly processed sugars from your diet, it\u2019s a good idea to replace them with fresh fruits and raw vegetables. These natural products still contain sugar, but they\u2019re also chock-full of nutrients your teeth need to become stronger. Many of them can also freshen your breath! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As you can see, keeping your teeth clean involves more than\njust brushing and flossing.
