Fluctuating hormone levels can\nmake <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jodimeadvindmd.com\/preventive-dentistry.html\">oral\ncare<\/a> more complicated and difficult, but that doesn\u2019t mean it has to be\nimpossible. If you\u2019re pregnant, it never hurts to go over this list of 5 common\ndental issues while pregnant to learn how to combat them and keep your smile healthy.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Pregnancy Gingivitis <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gum disease is already common enough among non-pregnant\nadults, but pregnancy multiples your chance of contracting it. If you notice any\nchange in the color or texture of the soft tissues in your mouth, bleeding\nduring brushing or flossing, or chronic bad breath that doesn\u2019t go away with\nimproved dental hygiene, let your dentist know. They may prescribe an\nantimicrobial mouthwash to help remove the extra oral bacteria that are characteristic\nof gum disease. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Soft Tissue Cysts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These cysts can look frightening, and you may be worried\nabout how it will affect the health of your little one. However, as long as\nthese cysts are noncancerous and don\u2019t cause pain or inhibit your ability to\ntalk or chew, your dentist will likely not want to remove them. They should\nclear up after you deliver, but if not, just let your dentist know. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Enamel Erosion Caused by Morning Sickness <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While you\u2019re hunched over the toilet or trash can wondering\nwhether you\u2019re going to keep down your bacon and eggs, the last thing you\u2019re probably\nthinking about is the state of your pearly whites. However, frequent vomiting\ncan actually lead to enamel erosion and tooth decay. To prevent this, rinse\nyour mouth out as soon as you can, and when possible, brush your teeth immediately\nfollowing your morning sickness to stop the stomach acid from damaging your\nteeth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Dry Mouth <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hormonal changes can lead to an inadequate supply of saliva\nin the mouth, also known as dry mouth. Saliva reduces plaque, so if you don\u2019t have\nenough, you\u2019re more at risk for gum disease and tooth decay. Counter dry mouth\nby drinking plenty of water and sucking on sugar-free hard candies or cough\ndrops. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Sensitive Teeth <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gum disease, enamel erosion, and dry mouth can all\ncontribute to dental sensitivity when the teeth are exposed to extreme\ntemperatures. It helps to see a dentist to determine and treat the cause of\nyour sensitivity. You can also use desensitizing toothpaste, which you can find\nat the store. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pregnancy is already hard enough without having to suffer\nthrough dental issues.
